I can't do without my hearing aid for two weeks
When my car goes in for a service or repair I get given a courtesy car to use while mine is out of action. It’s a given that the courtesy car will be available, all garages are offering one these days.
So what about when my hearing aids need servicing? Can I get courtesy aids to use while mine’s away? Because there’s no way I can go two weeks without my hearing aids, I need to go to work, I need to hear.
My choices are: hear nothing for two weeks, don’t ever service my aids or find someone who offers a courtesy pair.
I’ve been wearing aids for the best part of thirty years now and I’ve never had a pair serviced, I just can’t do without them for two weeks.

When I have needed to have mine taken care of, they give me a loaner pair. Since they are digital, they can simply transfer the settings from mine to the loaner for the length of time needed.
I can live without them!
I would hate to be in that position of being without my hearing aids for one week, let alone two weeks.
I have spares, but I don’t hear well with them. I would have to call in sick if something happened to my hearing aids.
I am an audiologist. Loaner hearing aids are much easier to provide when the user has behind-the-ear hearing aids. When a person wears in-the-ear or in-the-canal aids, they may want to consider purchasing custom earmolds just for the purpose of using loaner BTE’s. It’s much less expensive than buying an extra pair of hearing aids! I keep a fairly large stock of loaner instruments in my office. Because of the cost of hearing aids, I have to rely heavily on donations of hearing aids from my patients.
